Dom Robinson said the following on 13/03/07 21:00:
Not content with banning every normal lightbulb, even though my touch-
sensitive lamp doesn't actually work with energy-saving ones (it just flickers on/off quickly and doesn't come back on, when one of those is in), now they want all electrical products that have a standby button, such as TVs, to have those buttons removed.
First thing in the morning, my bedroom TV comes on and wakes me up (if the *** pigeon hasn't beaten it to it) so what am I meant to do now? Wake up of my own accord first thing, then go down to the cellar and switch on the power to the house, then go round each electrical item in the house and reset the clocks before switching on the TV just in time for when it would normally wake me up?
Build your own integrated system using an old 386 and beat Microsoft to the 'all-in-one' tv/computer/<anything else> system by using an old Maplin ISA 24-way controller card, a few thyristor circuits, a little C programming and a telly. Control the whole lot using the 386 as a server and you could get the guest spot on Look Around You!
Richard.
