And the anti-holocaust denier laws in Austria and Germany
were brought in precisely to stop stupid statements like that

So you're saying that governments imprison people for political statements
in order to stop stupidity? That's the stupidest thing I've heard in months.

No, I'm saying that, in an attempt to make amends for things that were
done by their inhabitants, the governments of Austria and Germany
decided that a step in the right direction would be to ensure that
statements like the above would not be tolerated.

The holocaust has been cheapened over the last fifty years because
every violent death of a group of people is deemed, by sensationalist
journalists, to be worthy of the name but, to those who actually
understand what it involved, it was deemed to be unlike anything that
had gone before nor like anything since and it was widely felt that
extreme measures like these laws were justified on that basis.

To characterise denials of the holocaust as just "political
statements" is missing the point, the laws were introduced for that
one, very specific reason, not as the precursor to more draconian
legislation.

It's also worth bearing in mind that many of the people who make
statements like Bucky's and poor scorn on the anti-holocaust laws as
government control gone mad, feel that Nazi Germany, and the control
it exerted, is a method of government that should be copied,
