There is plenty of supermarket jobs going if they want them. NOBODY isWhat I find strange is the sudden recent concern about bar workers
forced to work in bars.
health, grown adults who have chosen to work in a pub, yet there seems to
be little concern for the children who have no choice to live in an
environment where they're exposed to smoke. It is apparent that bar
workers' health is a very convenient stick to beat smokers with in order
to justify banning smoking in pubs, when in fact its just that
anti-smokers don't like smoke and think all pubs should be forced to
operate in a way they find acceptable to make them more pleasant places
for them to go to.

Smoking in front of your kids is child abuse.
It should as unacceptable as alcoholism, domestic violence, or incest.
I agree that you can not enforce this law absolutely any more than you
stop some *** (like in the film Kess) from going out drinking and then
coming home and beating up his fellow family members. However the
government can now steer public behaviour in a new direction, and
gradually offer similar treatments for tobacco-holism as they do for
alcoholism.
In the 70s drink driving was acceptable. Today drink driving is a common
taboo.
Hopefully by 2010 to 2020, smoking in front of your kids will be as
unacceptable as blatant alcoholism.
I am not the nannying type. I don't like paternalism. I hate New Labour
and the BBC to the core of my being. But, I know that smoking is a
terrible disease and it needs to be eradicated for the interests of the
innocent and vulnerable, even if this upsets the addicted, dying, and
fatally stupid.
Fucking take up smoking when your kids are 21 and have finished university
if you have to.
Go on smoking holidays.
Go to illegal smoking bars.
Fine, do it, but don't pollute your kids.
Strangely enough, the only statistically significant result in the 1998
environmental tobacco smoke study done by the World Health Organisation (who
are vehemently anti-smoking btw) was that the children of smokers were
actually 22% less likely to develop lung cancer later in life than children
of non-smokers. I don't think they were hoping for that result.
