Oooo... Special Brew.
Lemmy, of Motorhead, once claimed his hobbies were Special Brew and
fruit machines.
I first came across it in the days before it was the law to mark drinks
with their alcoholic strength.
Dangerous stuff when you are under the impression that it's just bog
standard lager. I drank four large cans and it's the only time I have
ever experienced the spinning ceiling.
Because of this experience, I welcomed the arrival of the new law, it
was one of the very few nanny state provisions I ever agreed with.
For the cautious, it gave you the information needed to make a sensible
choice about your drink intake and, for the more serious p******d, it
provided an excellent guide to getting where you wanted to be by the
shortest possible route.
It was reported recently that Tennant's Super, Special Brew's twin
sister and preferred choice of dossers, is to be sold in small cans
only in future because of its reputation.
