Even if you could find a TV repair shop and one willing to repair a 12 year
set the cost would be the same as a new unit (tellys are now considered
disposable items)

In regard to brands I always go for the trusted big names like Toshiba, Sony
& Phillips - but if price is a concern then consider the supermarket models

In regard to HD - are you big TV/DVD viewer or do you just have the telly on
in the background - put it this way do you ever sit down and watch a DVD
from start to finish with a bottle of wine? That will tell you if HD is for
you

Test the models out in Comet & Currys and then buy on-line.However, if
warranties and customer service are important to you then try John Lewis

And get the biggest set your room can stand
