His original theory was claimed to be wrong by that other physicist's
paper,
because it implied information is lost by a black hole. Hawking
acknowledges
that he was wrong, that information is lost using his current sum over all
possible histories solution.
An interesting documentary and just about managed to get away with making
complicated physics accessible to the ordinary viewer.
Fascinating that although the world in general regards Hawking as this
generation's Einstein, the academic world which he inhabits do not. Sadly,
it looks like he is not long for this world - I guess he will take some
solace from the fact that in one of his alternative dimensions he is an
immortal long distance runner ...
