Why is the monitor shut off useful? With the PC I had for about 3 months (my
first XP PC, but with its other problems I got a refund and bought another
elsewhere), I found the shortcut to do this by accident when I was using 4DOS,
as I often do even now but couldn't recreate it.
When i did it the first time I rebooted thinking that would resolve it, and I
saw the usual DOS screens while booting up, but when the Windows screen came
up... it didn't. As I had the screen cloned on the TV I brought that up, could
see the desktop I expected to see on the monitor, and went into the options to
turn it on again.
However, the fact it could go off at all seemed about as useful as having my
eyes gouged out since if I didn't have the PC hooked up to the TV I'd never
get the screen back on at all, making for a useless machine.
