How confusing. I read that as 'jewellery or perfume or something
equally boring.' Silly me!

Yeah, I was forgetting that normal women actually quite like such
gifts. Personally I'd rather have a nice fat lens for my camera, or
a book of recorder quarterts, or.... well, petrol vouchers. But then
I'm weird.

and to think there's women out there who complain their husbands
don't buy them enough of what they want or of high enough quality.

Is there a missing gene somewhere? Or have we got the wrong sort of
hobbies?

DEFINITELY NOT "the wrong sort" of hobbies! I find it very sad that
such stereotypes (not getting at you Chris, just society in general)
still persist - "girls don't do ..." this or that (and, for that
matter, boys don't ... too).

Back in the 60s and 70s I thought we were getting somewhere, you know,
when we all dressed as hippies and laughed at women who persisted in
flaunting their boobs and wearing stilettos, thinking of them as vacuous
airheads. But all that seems to have come back, and if you want to
wander around not looking glamourous you're in danger of being labelled
a dyke. What has happened to our little sisters? Why do little girls
want to wear bras when they're eight, and decorate their rooms in pink?
We fought for their rights before they were born, and now they don't
want them.
