I wonder whether anyone here can offer a suggestion or two with a problem that I've had for the last few days?
I have a laptop running Vista. I have used Firefox on it happily from new and all was well until this weekend. Then suddenly it kept freezing.
I made sure it is the latest Firefox version (3.6.6) but each time I re-started it kept freezing. So, I had to close down all the 30-odd tabs that I had open (!) and it started up fine. But then I found that, while it worked okay with many sites, it freezes on anything to do with Google, such as Google Mail, Google Maps, any Blogger site and even the basic Google search! I have since found that it also freezes if I try to use Twitter.
I have done some googling (using my spare browser, Iron) and found that Firefox 3.6.6 was put out to prevent freezing that was occurring with the previous version, but the circumstances didn't match my problem, and anyway, I've got the new version. I also found a help forum where someone was suggesting that a similar freezing problem was due to a faulty new version of a Flash plugin (which also affects AVG plugins, apparently). I have disabled the Flash and AVG plug-ins but the same freezing keeps happening.
Most other website work fine with Firefox. Google, Blogger, Twitter, etc work fine in Iron. I would have thought that if this was a widespread problem then it would be getting lots of mentions in forums.
I don't remember doing anything out of the ordinary before this started happening. I assume that the problem is related to something that Google and Twitter use (although I can't see what the basic Google search would use in the way of Flash, etc). I'd really like to get my Firefox back, as I have a set-up with extensions that I find useful.
Can anyone offer any suggestions or pointers?
Calling Sebastian.. Haven't seen him around for a while.
