After a long, boring battle, Dell have given me a full refund for my Studio 15 with Vista. I am now keen to get on and order a new laptop.
I've always felt that the particular machine was somehow a rogue machine, in spite of whatever anyone might say about whether that is a logical statement! My first Dell laptop is still going strong (with another owner) and Mike's has only just developed its first fault. With Dell you can select the spec of each component as you go along. So I'm tempted to get another Dell. It would need to be the same sort (Studio) as that is the cheapest one that has a slightly better graphics card.
So the first question is - has anyone a recommendation for a laptop brand that they have never heard anything bad about that would certainly be more reliable than Dell?
And the second question is whether anyone knows of any strong reasons why I would not go for a machine with Windows 7. I know it has not had its SP1 yet, but is there any evidence that even without SP1 it isn't better than Vista?
(About to have new hard drive on desktop so if by any chance I don't seem to be noticing helpful replies, it will be because that went Horribly Wrong and I shall be making every effort to get back online as soon as possible ;) )
I would second the vote for Lenovo. I like my T61p (which may be rather more than you want in terms of spec and price). It's had a new hard disk, but disks can fail on anything.
Yes, go for Windows 7. I don't think you'll get anything else anyway (assuming you're looking for Windows of some sort). Windows 7 is miles better than any Service Pack of Vista.
