I think our Lil will do the decent thing and come back.

I can't imagine she'll go at all (OP). She knows how much she needs to
have her family to fall back on, and they also need her support right
now (unreliable though it is). I think she will refuse to go, in the
hope that this will make him change his mind or at least persuade him to
come back soon and face the consequences.

Well, there you go. I thought she had more sense. I still OP that she
won't stay for long,

Well, she'll feel obliged to go back for Phil's funeral, won't she?

Hmm - that'll change a few storylines, won't it? I wonder if they've been
waiting in readiness for this?
To be brutal, I'd imagine there are plans for the death, illness or simple disappearance of most of the actors, be that replacement (Clarrie Grundy & Hayley), retirement to distant parts (Freddy) or storyline death.

Isn't Norman P reputed to have recorded a death scene, in anticipation of his demise?
For the cast's sake I hope they leave it a bit - a member of such long standing is going to be part of the family. From the audience point of view he is mainly important as a background character these

Well, yes, but he's such a central character in the family that it would be a bit artificial to keep him in the wings, supported by lines from Jill, like, "I'll just take a cup of tea in to Phil," or "Your father and I were just talking about..."
The SWs will know that we all know, and that we're just waiting for the big moment.

With Margot Boyd there was a family's wishes to take into account in how she was written out, but Norman Painting has no close relatives so maybe he has given the SWs or close friends inklings of how he would like to be played out.

He's the last of the original scriptwriters: they have to do him justice. My vote is for Mary Cutler, Joanna Toye or Carole Solazzo. In that order.

And I wouldn't mind if they re-issued Reluctant Archer: I haven't read that.

Sincerely Chris
