d#2Chloe came up to Cambridge to visit me in hospital. She's only been
working in Hammersmith for a few months and still getting used to
London. She gets very starry-eyed about going to places with famous
names which she'd only ever heard or read about before. It was a
Saturday, so AIUI congestion charges didn't apply. BTW, what does
TomTom do about the congestion zone? Does it know about it? Anyway,
she arrived all excited that she'd been directed through Piccadilly
Circus and (d'uh, I forget now, and I know if I make it up we'll end
up with a very ponderous thread about the best way to get from central
London to Cambridge).

Funny route. She should have gone past Olympia, Shepherds Bush (all
right the Westfield shopping Centre) A40, and picked up the signs for
the road to Cambridge. Avoid Central London and it would have been
faster.

what i said when she told us about it. (and i don't know london at
all, to first order -- lff once lived and worked there.)

still, it was a gps thing so *must* have been right. (there's a
steady flow of things on the risks list, about people who've gone
somewhere entirely stupid because the gps told them to; and there was
a recent one about a hiker who died in the australian outback because
he could _only_ give gps coordinates, whereas the emergency services
[in a little-britain-ish sort of way] insisted the computer demanded a
street address.)
