Hmm, I agree those are good things to have, but from reviews I've been reading, the NC-20 doesn't come with preloaded junk, apart from a _trial_ of one of the AVs, so I think AV should come before the two spys.

Yes, I've been wondering about AVAST; the default would have been AVG, of course, but lately I've heard it is a bit of a resource hog (though mainly from Sunbelt, who have their own - non-free - to sell). Though I suspect there's little to choose, in that _any_ AV software _must_ use some resources if it's to do any good. I take it you're referring to the antispy ones, not AV, which seems to update daily.
"Hijackthis" is worth an outing if you ever have a redirect problem.
I've seen mention of it, mainly in the '98 'groups, but I get the impression you need to be a real computer whizz to understand its output.
(How was that a security problem?) Yes, most Linux people are nice most of the time! (Lots of UMRAts are them, for a start!)
Ignore the Linux mob - even though I'm one of them I have no axe to grind and can honestly say that the only time I've had a Windoze security problem is when I incorrectly formatted a drive and had a "format error". Self inflicted.
