I am interested in knowing the computer specs of peoples computers
Have had busy week, but here's another female response, with all the trimmings.
We are at the moment a three functioning-computer family with at least two more ancient ones in the attic - as they are v slow and small and run Win95 I don't see us reviving them any time soon, and sometimes we wonder what to do with them. Of the functioning ones, the oldest is a eight-year old Tecra laptop with arthritic USB slots and a rubbish battery. But it's got 768MB RAM after a local whizzkid did what he could with the USB slots and upgraded it, and it is certainly good enough for visiting grandchildren, who are not allowed on our nice clean computers. It has a lovely closeup of a rose in the French garden at the moment, but I dare say the next child will replace that with something trendier.
His desktop is a Dell, 2GB RAM, Intel single core 1.?? Ghz, tasteful plain blue screen background, everything written in 12 point Times New Roman. 30GB hard disk about one-third full, he deletes everything he can.
Mine is a Dell Inspiron laptop, Centrino dual-core 1.66GHz, 1GB RAM (with Physical Address Extension, whatever that is), 70GB hard disk, 60GB used (I don't delete much), and a Freecom 500GB external hard disk for backup. No idea what any of the video cards are, they all work fine for what we want, which isn't games but is photographs. Default font is 11 pt Book Antiqua. My desktop picture is often something glittery from the Hubble telescope archives, but at the moment is a sun-dappled olive grove in Corfu, sigh.
We all run WinXP Pro, and have wireless cards linking to a Linksys access point allegedly getting up to 8MB from Demon via BT. Mostly we actually get around 2, though apparently ADSL2+ is going to be rolled out bit by bit.
When you've got all these details, Dave, what are you going to do with them? Are you going to construct an Umgeek league table?
