I suspect that if the e-mail had come to me as plain text with x images attached I would not have had any of that but just done one "save as" operation, but I haven't got a plain text message with attachments to try it out on at the moment.

Yes, that's ME as well: you usually find images are fine, it's just the original enclosing text that sometimes needs a filename. In general, I use "!.txt" for the first one and "!.htm" for the second, as they're usually the plain and HTML versions of the original text - and the images then come through in a rush, and I get a box saying (it would be in this case) 80 files successfully decoded, see decodelog.txt for details.
