Is this network with or without wires?

Without - at least in the case of two of the computers. I have a feeling the "main" computer might actually be connected to the router with a cable.
The new computer can log on to the wireless network and access the internet. It's the file sharing function we are lacking.

Ah, the network is working, you just haven't got any shared folders.

On one of the computers, select the folder you're going to share, right-click on it (in Windows Explorer), and play with the "sharing" tab. In there, you should be able to set what sort of access - read only, or read-write - you want the other computers to have, and also what they will see the folder as (default is the same as what it is called, but it doesn't have to be). Then on the other computers, just explore at the bottom of Windows Explorer inside Network, under Entire Network - you should then find the shared folder. (Check in that way on the original computer - you should be able to see the shared folders on that computer as if in two places, the normal one on C: or whatever, and via Entire Network.) Repeat the process on the other computers if you want folders on them to be accessible.

As anotherrat has said, it's easier if all the PCs have the "network" given the same name; not that it doesn't work if not, just that the structure appears more complicated than it needs to.

"Bother," said Pooh, as Windows crashed for the umpteenth time.
