Turning off java allows me to use real player thank you. But turning

the change has to be done each time?

Ah, yes. I guess that is a bit tedious, and the "dial-up" links cause
the choice to be remembered. (Btw, Java and JavaScript are different -
just so that you know not to confuse people in conversations where it
isn't clear from the context.)

Clicking to have the dial up modem does not seem to offer real player.
But the things I wanted real player for now seem to be in the bbc
iplayer so I suppose it is ok, just that it was nice to have a choice.
I probably won't need to bother as the pause button and go back and
forward works on the bbc player.

I forgot to add how you get to the "play in RealPlayer" option there, but
I had mentioned the trick in the "Catching up, technical issues" thread:

I can't use the stand-alone Realplayer option.

I've just seen that you can - it's in the menu that appears when you
click on the blue Realplayer icon to the right of the "play" button.

Sometimes it's grey, not blue. The thing is that the "dial-up" pages use
RealPlayer already, in embedded form, just like the old BBC radio player
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainframe.shtml) used to.
