not quite the same thing, but a little tip I developed which seemed so obvious that I was surprised when Mum made a fuss about how good an idea it was/is: if, after you've had a cup/mug of tea/coffee, you aren't going to wash it immediately, do run a little water into it when you put it into the sink, rather than letting the dregs dry.
Same applies to glasses that have had red wine in them.
If I'm not going to wash up immediately *everything* goes into water or has water put into it. My coffee mug I swill under the tap and put on the draining board to be used again later - I only ever use the one.
