Why, when I came over alone with no technical backup, has every
appliance decided to die? I had to get a new phone, the wireless
thingy one died last time and I got tired of using the very old huge
heavy wired fax/phone that I had to stand near, as the cable would not
reach to sit down.

Then my electric toothbrush died and I had to get a new one. The
funny black bit at the base seemed like a clue and it stopped shizzing
at all.

Now the Skype phone is deadish. I can see people but ringing cuts out
after a short while when I call or never begins and there is a thuddy
noise (tech term?) and then I get error messages. I've done all the
help and find the error and we tried him taking over with the remote
umbrella thing twice but he did more or less what I did and the error
message at times says
'runtime error phone requested runtime to terminate it in unusual way'
and as the picture continues fine if I ignore that it is the phone. We
think there is a headphone/speak umbrella somewhere but I can't see
one.

There really is some electronic malevolence floating around here.
Gremlins are not just superstitions.

First daughter drops phone down toilet (nothing suspicious there ..) had her
Mums old phone all boxed up to sell on Ebay, This morning put daughters sim
card in ...not switching on @#+*ing display freezing , then her mums new
phone wouldn't switch on, put the battery out of my daughters old phone in
and it worked eh?
Visit to shops to buy new phone, came home now my phones backlight stops
working! then Mums old phone starts working again. now the B***dy electric
tooth brush won't charge....arghhhhhh.........

Oh dear. Are we starting to see a pattern here? Do you remember the
Dr Who episode where the TomTom umbrella thing in the car was used by
aliens and took over......?

I continued to fiddle with the various settings for the headset and
sound on skype and generally. Sound stopped working on the computer
for everything. I downloaded the skype update and installed it but it
asked for me to log in as admin to complete it, which is why I ditched
it the time before.

Aanother, who refused to try remote fixing again because said it was
too slow to control the cursor even if I closed everything, said I
*was* admin. I was always admin. I rebooted and logged in as usual
and then went off to watch the West Wing that I'd recorded because I
got discouraged about sound on the computer. (I mean I went off
because discouraged, I'd recorded it anyway).

Later on I heard pingy noises from the IRC window, so sound was
working on the computer. I tried and it was working in Skype but I
was unable to boost it above fairly quiet. Everything else was loud
though and it was set at max.
