Does this "IE tab" in Firefox actually run IE, or just run Firefox in
such a way that it looks like IE to the website? (I'm still using the
old Netscape 7.2, and keep meaning to play with Firefox, which I
understand has the same root - Mozilla - as Netscape.)

It's my understanding (though we all know by now how limited that is!)
that Firefox just makes the page look like IE to the website.

Thanks - even more reason to try Firefox. I really must hunt a tuit.
(Though in the web browsing I do, I must say I don't _that_ often come
across anything that won't work with N7.2.)

I am pretty certain that IETab in Firefox runs IE components. It
won't work without IE.

I am also advised, by people who should know, that it is actually
better to have (a fully up-to-date) IE on your (Windows) computer than
not, even if you do not use it, because it contributes to the security
of Windows - something to do with handling Windows updates.

Strangely, those who would use this as an excuse to further slag off
Windows are hamstrung by the fact that they *already* sound like
broken records on that particular topic.

Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills, What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went And cannot come again.
