It looks as if I'm going to be EasyJetting over to England for a funeral next week. (Aged Aunt, been v ill for v long time, suffered a lot, happy release. My mother's Baby sister, so I really should be there for Ma's and my cousin's sake.) I will probably need to get from Gatwick Airport to Wimbledon and I would rather not hire a car as I would doubtless have a panic attack and be run over by a lorry on the hard shoulder of the M25. I've had a look at the Network Rail journey planner and see that I would have to get trains run by different companies. I've never seen anything so confusing, but maybe it's just I'm not in the mood.. Anyhow, all I want to do is turn up at the station and buy a return ticket. Is that possible, or should I jump through hoops first?

You can always get a through ticket from anywhere to anywhere else, thankfully. At least Gatwick to Wimbledon is pretty straighforward, and just asking for the ticket will get you what you want. Although...
If you're going there and back the same day, then you'll probably get a Travelcard, as Wimbledon is within London. If not, a normal return is what you want.

There's a (small) chance that advanced booking for specific trains will save some money, but it's not normally much if anything on the London commuter lines, so probably easiest to turn up and buy.

I assume it's just Gatwick-Clapham-Wimbledon, just one change.
