ButButBut - AIAOU in thinking, hey wait a minute, didn't Phil's about last-but-three obsessions-out-of-the-blue (like the current astronomy one) involve cooking? To high (and exotic, if he'd ever been away to far foreign parts) standards?

Yes, I think that's right. He's had a couple of attempts at exotic cookery - he seemed to enjoy the results more than the others he cooked for, but perhaps he'll get really into it now and tell Jill he's had enough of her boring old hotpots.
