Ah, you didn't specify in the subject - voice _input_ software.

Can't say I've tried it recently enough for any experience to reflect current practice, though I remember the (apocryphal, I'm sure) story of when some such was being demonstrated, the presenter asked people to try it, and some wag at the back of the room yelled out

As for voice _output_ software, though I know you didn't ask about that: I would say that, though still far from perfect, it has progressed by leaps and bounds to the extent that it is now very much a usable product, certainly for anyone that has difficulty reading the screen. (The greater problem is making it interface with today's GUI-obsessed world, but - with certain restrictions on which applications work with it - it is again usable.) The widest-used ones are I think JAWS and Window-Eyes; they are, unfortunately, like most of what's available for the V-H, not cheap (hundreds of pounds).
