Re: PlusNet required Mr Reed

Having retired last night with an umra backlog of zero, Plusnet's newsserver today advises me that I have a backlog of over 100,000.

This may take a while.

Have other Plusnet-rats noticed the same thing?

I actually use Berlin, rather than the Plusnet servers but I saw this on the plusnet.service.status group:

Maintenance Window:-
Monday 31st March.

Service Affected:-
Usenet.

Duration of expected customer impact:-
Up to 24 hours.

Detailed description of work to be performed:-
We have recently received notification from our Usenet supplier
Giganews that they will be renumbering Supernews' message headers
following their aquisition of the company. Prior to this aquisition it
was Supernews' who provided us with our news feed.

Expected customer impact:-
Once the Supernews' headers have been renumbered, customers are likely
to experience one or more of the following problems:

* Posts to our private moderated newsgroups stop appearing eg.
p.s.customer-feedback and p.s.status.
* Your news client starts downloading the headers and/or bodies of
messages it has already retrieved.
* Posts that are marked as read become unread.
* Headers appear with missing bodies eg. clicking on a post fails to
retrieve the message.

The steps you will need to take following the maintenance to resolve
any issues will vary from one news client to the next. One sure-fire way
to restore access to all of your groups is to delete the news account
from your mail program, recreate it and then resubscribe to all of your
groups. Some customers however, may want to try a less-aggressive
approach first to minimise disruption.

Other Notes:-
Further details regarding this work and the steps required to minimise
disruption to customers can be found in a recently published blog post
over on our Community Site:-
