married Will because he was safe bet financially and then decided she
wanted his brother as well and tried to deprive Will of all access to his
son. What had Will ever done to deserve that? If he was so incredibly
boring why did she marry him?

Plus Will has never shirked from supporting George. Quite the contrary. By
using the money to create an income rather than spending the capital he
will be better placed to support his son not worse. Any variation based in
his new income will be for George, not for Emma. and I can't see courts
taking a dim view of a father who has always been a reliable support,
using capital to ensure that long term support.

Investing in property in this way is exactly what most people would think
is a good idea.

I don't agree that 'Will has had all the breaks' unless a break is reaping
the reward of hard work.

Will moved into Caroline's flat as I recall because it was the only way he
could keep his job as assistant keeper when the Grundy's moved to the
council flat. He had worked hard to train and qualify for that job with
precious little support from his brother and father who undermined his
efforts. Would Caroline really have invited an idle layabout with light
fingers into her flat? She was explicitly supporting his hard work and
attempts to be an honest worker (ie not like Eddie).

Will had a car because he had worked hard and earned the money to buy it.
If I'd worked hard to earn the money for something and my idle relative
wrecked it by helping themselves to it I'd be hacked off. Even if it
didn't include my partner.

Will has a cottage because it is part of his wages. Its a two up two down
(as far as I can tell) in the middle of nowhere to enable him to to a job
which demands insane hours and supplies a modest pay packet. Emma didn't
like it there, Nic feels isolated. It isn't exactly a dream palace and
again, Will pays for it with hard work.

Ed has had more direct support and help in spite of his behaviour from
Oliver, than Will had really from Caroline. Oliver has constantly helped
Ed, given him a job, held it open for him etc when Ed had done precious
little to deserve the trust. That was real luck, few people would have
done the same.

The only break which is complete luck for Will is the inheritance. He has
made it very clear that a chunk of it is reserved for spending on the
family. George will benefit from the extra income and I can't see Will not
looking after his parents if the need arose. I think he would feel it a
family duty. Whilst it would have been better if the Aunt had divided the
money you can't blame Will for that or the fact that his relationship with
Ed is so bad. What did Will ever do to Ed to deserve the appalling
behaviour?



He was horrible throughout. TBH I found the way he treated Roy worse than
how he was with Emma. He has no reason to sympathise with her but Roy is
supposed to be his friend. Maybe Joe can put him straight. I can't
imagine
anyone else doing it.


When he was discussing Roy with Nic he said that Roy couldn't afford the
house. He obviously had thought it through - he said they couldn't make
the price last time and the increase in rates would outweigh the reduction
in price plus they have a baby on the way. He was actually right - Roy and
Hayley were over stretching to get it. I do wish Will had talked to Roy
about it beforehand but I can see why he might not realise it was even on
the cards for them or not want to rub it in by asking.

I don't think Roy's response was particularly fair but I can understand
it. I also think that even if Will withdrew his offer Roy would not be
guaranteed it, another offer could just as easily come along. They simply
can't afford it.



There's only one Grundy who's ever grasped the concept that a Grundy
might do some kind of favour for someone outside the family, and
that's Clarrieluv. She might feel some sympathy for Roy and Hayley.

As for Joe, he's as grasping and greedy as the rest of the Grundy
crew.


I don't really agree. Will does try to do the right thing, even if a bit
irritating about it at times and with some timewarped views on domesticity
which seem to have appeared magically in recent months. (He wasn't this
Victorian two years ago). He isn't in Clarrie's league but very few are.

For anyone in a tied house, trying to buy independent property is a
priority. Its their pension quite often. What I don't understand is why
Roy, as GreyGables manager, doesn't get accommodation. If Roy and Hayley
had accommodation with Roy's job they would be in Ambridge and could put
their money into something smaller, maybe not so local but more
affordable, and then rent it out.

I think it's quite a break having a rich godmother who can give you a flat
for a nugatory rent and to provide the money for the car and driving
lessons. He also didn't work all that hard on his course. He only just
managed to get on it after a lot of pushing and encouragement from George
when he was still at school and then regularly tried to skive off in the
beginning.

Ed was lucky with Oliver much later in his life.
