Is this the first time we've had two local people interested in buying
the same house? And who will suceed in getting it - poor but deserving
Roy'n' Hayley, or entrepreneur Will with his buy-to-let scheme?

Lillian'll buy it up as a bolt hole away from Matt, but then will let
it out Roy'n'ailey.
Then Piggy will feel sory for them and together with Lillian they will
give it (No 1) to roy'n'ailey.

No - they wont...

No they won't. Poor Roy 'n' Hayley. I can't help feeling Will will be a
hate figure for more people than just Ed once the news gets out. Silly man
should have asked R&H if they were trying again before he put his offer in.

His behaviour is understandable. He now has more money than he ever
dreamed of having, and he's intoxicated. He's seen the possibility of
being the first Grundy to own a house. The vision of Will Grundy the
village landowner is floating before his eyes and he can't see beyond
it.

OTOH, Steve is right. Shortage of affordable housing is a key issue
in rural areas, and someone who buys one of the few affordable
properties in the market, using unearned income, when he already has
somewhere to live, is not going to be popular. The fact that he's
taking the property from the grasp of a likeable young couple who are
expecting their first baby and really need a home of their own only
makes matters worse.

Apart from anything else, envy is a common emotion. There will be
plenty of people in Ambridge ready to dislike Will simply for
inheriting a large amount of money. And now he's given them a
cast-iron pretext to justify their envy.

I opined in another thread that Will is heading for a fall. That was
before he committed hubris. This only makes his doom more certain.

Not that TB is predictable, or formulaic or anything.
