Guardian article both point out, putting the biometric data on an RFID
chip on a passport exposes it to be read without the passport holder
knowing or noticing. Some encryption scheme would then have to be
broken, but this has already happened with (I think) Dutch passports.
The Guardian says that the data stored about the fingerprints (this
would have to be called a fingerprint fingerprint) has been used to
reconstruct fake fingerprints that were then successfully used.
