I know that I'm not the only umrat to dislike the BBC's insistence on

it were the French for "so difficult". I have e-mailed the Toady prog
twice to complain, but to no effect. So I am wondering whether
umratic sympathisers would like to join me in contacting Fed-Up, as
well as particular programmes that insist on the Frenchified
pronunciation and requesting that they go for something more accurate
and Latinate (I favour "di-FISS-i-lay" but I could live with
"di-FEECH-i-lay").
I suppose there's also a case for di-FEEK-i-lay or diffi-KEEL-ay. I think di-FEECH-e-lay is probably Church Latin (should the Church ever have occasion to refer to it). That's the trouble with Latin, it's pronounced differently depending on which country you're in, and also there's legal Latin, Church Latin, school Latin, etc. I do understand the irritation caused by the French-style pronunciation, if only because of the French habit of pronouncing everything as if it were French.
AIUI, the medics pronounce it "See Diff". Maybe that's the answer.
