Don't know if this answers your question, Ralph, because I didn't
understand it.

Thanks Anne, it does somewhat. The only thing that bothers me about
this device is the use of WiFi only. I wonder how many you would need
to have running in the house before the WLAN gums up. I have wired
my house with ethernet cables, and they provide higher bandwidth and
less electrosmog.

To us expats, it is an interesting option. R4 via WLAN and the
ethernet. However, I've only just wired up a short-range FM
transmitter to my permanently-tuned-to-R4 satellite receiver (don't
tell BAKOM!) so my need is not urgent at the moment.

However, the ability to listen to those MP3 files on my PC's harddisk
would be nice.

About the only word I understood in context up there was WiFi, so I
can't comment, except to agree that it is a v interesting option for
expats, and as Bluerose found out, much cheaper than any of the others.
I think we'll be investing on one (early Christmas present!) the next
time we go to England. I got so jealous when I talked to Jo the other
day and she was listening to Toady on a radio in the bedroom (but that
was cable, not internet, radio, wasn't it, Jo?), whereas I'd got the
telly with the blue screen on.. I don't mind so much, but husbad and
dorter get really irate at not being able to watch telly because I want
R4 on.

Thank you again for pointing this out, Vicky. How portable is it? Would
it be easy to carry it from room to room?

Can I answer? :-) The Logik IR100 uses Wireless LAN, but still needs
a mains electricity connection, AFAIU, so your listening pleasure
would be interrupted between plugs.

I've recently bought myself a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet thingy. This
_can_ do truely wireless streaming of Radio 4 - at least until the
(rechargeable) battery runs down after 4 or 5 hours. It's also rather
fun for webbrowsing & skyping in inappropriate places (use your
imagination).
