Do you mean GCE O or A? It certainly wasn't in the O that I did
in the mid-70s.

Whereas it was in the O Level exam I sat in 1977. Though only at
its most basic. I think, in those days, a lot depended which exam
board's syllabus you were following.

I went to a grammer school which paired with the neighbouring girls
school when I was 14. Because of this we studied different
syllbuses in some subjects, including maths. I was quite surprised
when I got to university and found that matrices, which were in
the SMP maths the girls did and not in the JMB course I studied,
were actually quite important. Who would have guessed that
Physicists also used 'girly' maths?

As we speak, I'm listening to a prog whose name I no not on R4,
which has been discussing militant feminism.



Heresy. Sometimes amusing IMO. But not as good as either 'Genius' or
'The SomethingOrOther Truth' IMO.

Quite right too. I can remember, as a kid, looking at job ads in the
paper where different salaries were quoted for men and women doing
the same job. I knew it was wrong as a 10 year old and I haven't
seen any reason to change my mind since.


But the gals these days, they've no
idea of what feminism is, militant or not. And I think that's not
nececelery a good thing for us grils.

Especially if some of the articles which appear in certain magazines
are to be believed. The first half will describe how the lady in
question (usually over 30) believes that her Mr Right should have
(something like) Brad Pitt's looks, Will Self's mind and Bill Gates'
bank balance. The second will bemoan the difficulty she's having
meeting a "suitable" mate.
Could I just say that I think Will Self is a total prat(t), with no
appeal whatsoever. I'm not convinced by Brad Pitt's SA, either, but I
wouldn't mind Mr Gates' bank balance, tis true. On the whole, though,
Dustin Hoffman's The Man For Me..

As I said to Kimbo - you can pick your own trio.

How about Dustin Hoffman's looks and Melvyn Bragg's mind? Or do you like Mr
Hoffman's mind too?

We men are altogether more realistic about these things. As soon as I meet
Mariella Frostrup I'll be sorted. ;-)
