Does aioe provide web access then? I`ve used it from home but from
internet cafes like this one (no rude remarks about the keyboards
here: these ones are _nice_) I need web access to newsgroups and
that`s when I use google.

Not as far as I know - but my travels tend to be within the UK. I can carry
the whole of my Agent on a USB stick these days but switching between a
Don't-wana-Orange-freeswerve connection and a used-to-be-Blueyonder one as
I have for the last 5 years, an independent news server was the easiest way
to go.

IIRC there was once a uk-based free web access to newsgroups. I forget
what happened to it: did it just die or did I lose interest because it
started to charge?

A quoogle on 'usenet web access' found many results.
This page http://www.newsreaders.com/web/ summarises what is around but
some of the links are broken and at least one declared to be free for text
groups does in fact charge. http://www.newsgroups.gs looks like it could be
good (if only it didn't show the oldest posts first and apparently have 360
day retention) but the only group it has under uk.radio.* is
uk.radio.amateur :(

I'd have thought, having got to grips with google gropes (as you plainly
have) it would be best to stick with it as it is unlikely to disappear in a
puff of cybersmoke, the advertising is unobtrusive and they won't suddenly
start charging you for access.
