Hm, what's the message you get when you try to logon, still about not
being allowed to logon locally?
Yes and no :)
The system has only two enabled accounts (both currently disabled) -
Administrator and me - my brother commented on his last visit that I had no
Guest account - I dunno what became of that one. I do recall seeing a
disabled account when I made my stupid mistake but I think that was called
User.
Or could it be that have always logged in automatically to an account
that has a password, i.e. the password was stored beside the "log in
automatically" setting and you have forgotten it now? And the
Administrator has a password too but likewise you forgot about that? I
know you said earlier there was no password, but could that have been wrong?
I am sure no passwords have ever been set.
I'll pay more attention to the rest of your post tomorrow when I have
finished showing potential buyers around and can return to normality but I
did try another version of secedit.d earlier. This had Administrator and
Guest accounts and, while I got the same error message with Administrator
as I've been getting all along, trying to log in as Guest produced a
different one (I forget the details) which, quite logically I thought since
the account does not exist, told me to contact my system administrator.
One thing I have noticed is the message as Windows boots up
Applying security policy
So I plainly need to stop it doing that.
I may see if the Windows 2000 CD can boot and give me a dos window
tomorrow, then I can try those other things Tim mentioned.
