advice needed urgently

Can someone point us in the right direction, please?

My daughter has just phoned me from Liverpool to say that her flat has
been broken into and her laptop stolen. They've had the police and the
boarding-up business, s-o-c are coming tomorrow morning. I've
refrained from lecturing her about not backing up or leaving it
visible, and such comments won't help right now.

She's busy changing passwords, and has cancelled her credit card just
in case. She can't locate her father, who lives with her, as he's on a
cycling trip away; her sister is with her. They're in their late 20s.

What I need to be able to do for her urgently is to let her know if
there is any helpline or website she can refer to that will list any
other precautions she should take. Anyone who can think of anything,
or has any relevant experience, please will you post back to cam.misc
or mail me as soon as anything comes to mind.

Merseyside Police told them that most of the burglaries they had dealt
with over the last few weeks had involved laptops (nothing else was
taken) so someone's got themselves a nice fence. I doubt if these
things are usually recovered, are they? It's a bit of a disaster for
her as she's doing up a small art gallery ready to stage an exhibition
in about ten days' time and all her information is on the laptop.
