Well done you

Toodles bought a DVD the other week which had 'audio description' on it by
chance. Can't remember its title now (and it was difficult to follow,
even with the audio description as the plot was a sort of sci-fi thing
with a lot of twisting of plot). Has anyone else used audio description
very much? How does it rate? I'm told people find it useful when they're
doing other jobs like ironing. I haven't yet found a film I would want to
watch with it, but an awful lot of DVDs (like the Forsyte Saga: latest
version), where it would be invaluable.

What an intriguing idea - films you don't have to watch. I suppose they
might add bits like in TA, where they say, "Ah there you are, Soames. Irene
said I'd find you here in the library. I just though I'd have a word about -
oh hello, Jolyon, I didn't see you there ..."

Sort of. As I understand it in the 'silent' bits or where there's music, you get descriptions of costumes or what people are doing with their expressions etc. When shown in cinemas, its only certain ones that have the facility, you need a pair of headphones. I tried it once in the theatre - and it didn't work. (I was not best pleased and Hazel did her utmost to find a member of the am dram theatre company to see what we did wrong. Never did find out if it was my headset or more likely me).

Checking the RNIB's site, it only lists audio described videos, but I saw the DVD we've got 'The Village'. Lets see: Chocolat, LOTR, Finding Nemo, Shawshank Redemption, the Harry Potter ones are just some I saw there, but I know of the original ones Three Weddings and a Funeral was another. There's loads of them actually and some are aimed at children too. I also know that not everyone likes this 'audio description'. Oh, and there are quite a few TV progs which have it. LOST (second series) has had it reinstated. It was on series one already.

Sincerely Chris
