(Waitrose, initially, but Tescp is held in reserve) There are a couple
of questions.
1 The little icon which appears in the tray bottom right (I
am using XP) which shows a couple of linked screens flashing as the
modem operates, is missing. I like to be able to click on thsi to
bring up a little panel showing the movement of bytes in and out. How
do I get it back?

Go to the Control Panel and open Network Connections. Right Click on
the connection to Waitrose and select Properties. On the General tab,
check Show icon in notification area when connected. That should do
the trick.

Only 700 posts behind? I speet on your 700 posts. This is nothing to
those who are seriously behind! I am now under 4 figures though, so
progress is being made.

Thanks for this Al. I'll give it a go.
Can I give you a hint in return? There is no commandment
carved in stone that says you have to read all of umra.
I usually arrange to download the first two/three posts in any
new thread and when I have read them I decide if I can bear not to
know how the thread develops. If it proves to be long I may sample a
few from further down. That way I am sure I miss quite a lot of twists
and turns as various fibres are incorporated in the thread, but what
the h*ll - life is for living, not crouching over a screen late into
the night!
