It was to me. A nasty surprise.Incidentally, there was a
programme about rape last night on R4 and it seems a huge percent of
rapists get away with it. That's a percent of those rape cases that
are reported, never mind those which are not. So there are a great
many of them walking around, free.
Surely this is not a surprise?
I'm surprised you're surprised. No, really. I agree it's nasty, but I
thought it was a well recognised phenomenon. Women do not report
rapes. When they do, they go through deeply disturbing experiences,
first having to report and describe the expierence to the police,
having to be medically examined, and then reliving the abuse in
public, in the gloating presence of the perpetrator when they get to
court. At which point the defence lawyer will attempt to say a) it
didn't happen b) they said "yes" and/or c) they're total sluts so it
doesn't matter...
d) they've drunk so much that they're legally unable to refuse consent
