I agree. And (although I am meticulous in my care never to mention it) I
have no time for postmodernism either, but I read, at considerable personal
cost, some Baudrillard and Foucault because I wanted to know how obviously
intelligent people tried to justify such palpable nonsense. It is easy (and
pleasurable) to mock what they *might* say, and I'm all for it. It's just
that I'd like to know what the ID people *do* say,and wondered whether
anyone knows, or where I can find out.
The problem is, you are asking in the wrong place. From the views
expressed here, we Umrats are either athiests who think ID is a load of
tosh and so haven't gone into the details of it, or are religious people
who are secure in their beliefs and don't need a crutch like ID (and,
indeed, may well also think it's a load of tosh), so haven't gone into
the details of it.
EU fails for once.
Not entirely. I don't fall into either of the groups you mention since,
until a few days ago, I had very little idea what ID was although I was
vaguely aware of having heard the term. I am now slightly better informed,
thank you, people.
I have also realised something about an aging relative, a (long) retired
teacher and Christian missionary, with whom I spent a little time (a rare
event) on Saturday. She displays _no_ respect for the points of view of
others, is always entirely judgmental (in her own, gentle way) and there is
just no room for debate (not that I particularly want to debate with her
about it).
I know she has led a challenging life and I'm sure her faith has helped her
through it but can't help feeling she might have had a happier time one way
and another if she'd rebelled against what she saw as moral obligations
brought about by her beliefs.
When belief displaces or blocks out thought it becomes a problem.

The problem is we live in a blame culture - whose fault's that?
