A couple of years back I asked an organic farmer who does not
allow hunts on his land about this. His response was {a) ewes are
naturally maternal so any fox that chances his luck is likely to
get an unforgettable kick on the head; and (b) if they had a
particular problem they would set a bait get a marksman to
dispatch the fox. His reckoning was that the only lambs ever
likely to be got by foxes would be sickly ones who wouldn't be
much missed.

When the hunting bill was being debated one argument was that if
hunting was banned farmers and others would be more inclined to
shoot foxes which would mean there would be fewer of them. This
apparently is a bad thing which makes me think that the threat to
livestock is vastly overstated.
