I bought one about 3 months ago (prices have dropped around here) and have rarely been so pleased with a new acquisition. No cassettes! No overtaping! And it shows everything I've recorded, dated and labelled, six to a screen, so I can find stuff and also, nearly as often as not, decide I can't be bothered and zap it (one, two, gone!) unwatched. Then the joy of not having to wait until it's finished recording to watch a recording, including the programme it hasn't yet finished. Which you can pause if the phone rings...
Actually, I find I watch less television since I got it.
I like the idea of those but am put off by the fact that you have to watch the program on the same telly where you recorded it. I quite often record something downstairs and then take it upstairs to watch in bed, or fisse fosse.
It's actually very easy to send video from one device in the house to a screen elsewhere, either wirelessly or not. Alternatively, if the file is on a hard drive, then you could take the video file to watch - my iPaq pocket pc is quite usable for watching videos in bed, or you could use something like a Playstation Portable.
