When it comes to buffets, yes, I agree that that is bad manners. In
the case of pub helpings though, I have a lot more sympathy for people
who over order, as you rarely have any choice about portion size. If
the pub gives you a helping which is more than you want to eat, it
seems reasonable to me that you should not be under any obligation to
finish it.
