Yeah, but as we were through in the past... there are no
coincidences in Magnolia (apart from the initial introduction)
Well, it has been a while since I've seen Magnolia, in fairness. I
thought the basic premise though was that all the characters are
living their own lives, but there are links and little interweaves
everywhere. Still, if it was a bad analogy, I'll sulk for a moment
then will go away and think of a better one.
It's not that it's a bad analogy. You're not wrong. It's just that the movie
itself is wrong. The examples it gives in the opening few scenes are great
examples (real or fictitious) of coincidence.
The rest of the movie doesn't really have any coincidences -although it is
full of irony.
Remember we discussed this around a year ago when you said/thought (at least
I think it was you) I was quoting Ed Byrne when I said Magnolia had no
coincidences and there was no ironies in that "Isn't it Ironic" song?
I tend to cringe too much when thinking of anything to do with the
80s.
As I say, it's like UMD in the OT: era, the chat is about anything
but the 80s. Current topics are lookalikes. I've been told that I
look like Matthew Broderick, which is vaguely flattering, but
patently wrong. Similarly though, I've also been told I look like
this man.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cambridgeshire/5086810.stm - It's
unfortunatly a lot closer to the truth.
I laughed when I saw the picture, but it gave me a kick back when I saw what
it was for. Poor guy.
A friend of mine went the same way -although he was riding his bike at the
time, not hiding under there.
We're also talking about www.pandora.com - Have a play with it, it's
great! If it asks for a US postcode, just put in 90210 or something,
you'll get away with it.
Yup I tried that a while back. It is good alright -even though I think the
only "constant" in my music taste is everything needs to be different. I
rarely like 2 bands who do similar things for some reason -which kinda kills
pandora for me. :/
