No, it's the system, it's built to block recordable media, it's a
copyright
tool, the laser can read well enough. Getting it chipped over-rides the
block,


That's for games not movies.

I regularly play movie backups on the PS2 with no difficulty.

The original posters problem is a media compatibility issue.

PS2 are fussy about which media they'll play.

I've never tried it with a DVD+R but have never had any problems with good
quality DVD-r.
