i was mucking around with settings today and i couldnt get the message to go
away unless you turn off all messages from the menu, which you have to do
each time, i tried changing the options on my tvs media box, it have 3
options, auto/digital/analogue audio from hdmi, and changing those didn't
help either. as i watch mostly movies it only comes up the once at the
start, but i just go in the menu and turn off the warnings
one problem i did find was that the EZ zoom didnt work if i played back avi
files or mpgs, it seems to play xvid and divx, but it just stretches the
image out of the OAR and i couldnt get it to display properly thru the hdmi.
i presume if i connect the dvd player to the tv via scart i can get around
this by using the tvs zoom options (perhaps setting the output on the dvd
player to 4:3 first. a bit of a pain, but i dont watch much divx these days
so its not a problem. ive also got my pc connected to the plasma and that
will play everything bar sacd so i can always use that if i get stuck - not
that its going to help you out
i think like SAW said, samsung know about the problem but aint doing nothing
to fix it, and at the price it spits out a decent picture and plays sacd and
dvd audio. its another £50 plus postage minimum for the denon which has less
zoom options - which may be an issue playing back your 4:3 material. i tried
a dvd of music videos in 4:3 on the samsung and i just pressed EZ zoom a few
times and that output in 4:3 correctly through the different videos, so i
imagine it would be the same when playing your animation dvds
i might try some other options tonight as i've still not managed to get my
dvd recorder setup properly thu the tvs media box to record freeview, but im
not hugely surprised as i have a helluva lotta stuff plugged in, and i still
havent started on the laserdisc player, so i'll be trying out other options
over the next few days.
does anyone know if samsung does firmware updates to dvd players via
downloads? or are there any "fan" sites with unnoficial firmwares?
