theres 2 audio options on that screen, the top 1 turn to bitstream and that
will connect with the optical and the bottom for mpeg2 audio turn to pcm and
use a stereo rca cable to connect. you will also need to use the 6 rca
connections for the 6 channel analogue output for sacd/dvda - this is how i
have it setup and it works. mpeg3 audio is normally stereo (usually from
downloaded mpeg conversions or standalone dvd recorder stuff) so as the
original source is stereo it wont matter to much, and you can use prologic
to give surround effect if required
about the zoom thing, using ez zoom i thought that lasted as long as the dvd
you were watching, not turning off per video title - ie. turning off after
you watch 1 set of extras, i havent tried this though. but i would have
thought a tv series in 4:3 would be one video title set when authored, so if
you choose "Play all" on the dvd menu it should play the lot without the
zoom thing causing a problem - best way is to give it a try
one thing i found a bit nippy though was this - if i turn off my tv and put
in an SACD it will play the cd stereo part and even flicking the SACD/CD
button it reloads the disc and plays the cd part. it appears i can only play
an sacd disc if the tv is on, which isnt very good, i would prefer to play
the sacd and put some other tv channel on or whatever (like my pc which is
plugged into my plasma) - i presume this is cuz of the hdmi which would give
feedback to the player if the tv was on or not. again if i change channels
or source on the tv, the sacd player stops playing and starts from the
beginning again, in CD mode. i was trying to play the dark side of the moon
whilst using the pc. there may be a setting on the dvd player or tv about
this. its a bit of a pain not being able to play sacd without the tv on. i
may need to turn off hdmi whilst playing sacd, but this would mean i would
need to also connect the dvd player to the tv with a scart or component
otherwise i wont be able to see the menu on screen to turn hdmi back on -
thus more bloody leads going into the telly.
it might also be worth checking with samsung again on monday after trying
these things and see what they say, if they say they will get back to you in
24 hours get the persons name and note the date and time and if you dont get
any luck, try back a couple of times quoting the names and times of the
person you spoke to. they will then realise your not going to go away in a
hurry and try and sort out the problem. after a couple of attempts and
getting nowhere, a request to speak to the supervisor and quoting the names
of the unhelpful staff with times and dates (so they can't claim they have
too many Daves or Mikes working there) will probably result in them doing
something about it (these are just techniques for chasing accounts who owe
you money, you never get to speak to the person you want so note times dates
and the person you left a message with, and when you start quoting this they
see you are one of the few people worth moving to the top of the pile -
again after a couple of tries with call centre staff, you have more than
enuff rights to speak to a supervisor as you have tried twice with no
satisfactory result - and if the supervisor cant help you, ask to speak to
someone higher, apologising that your sorry but your forced to have to do
this, in big call centres they will have someone in charge of supervisors or
put you through to head office, or alternatively the supervisor will pull
his finger out his ass and try and help you as he will be concerned you have
his details and complain - to which you can log an email or written request
which they will find hard to ignore, particularly if you keep a copy and
mail it back to them again asking why they didn't reply the first time - let
me know how you get on if you call them. you can also mention that you've
discussed the issues online with other owners so it's not just you - there
is a thread at avforums.com in the dvd player section worth checking out,
and another for the denon 1920s, which i understand have a different problem
regarding the zoom, thus if you need the zoom option, the samsungs probably
the best choice
