Many years ago I lent an anthology of short sci fi stories to a friend who
was moaning that the books supplied for his adult literacy classes were very
boring. Unfortunately, he moved away with it and it was never returned. I
can remember a few snippets of some of the stories and wonder if one of you
out there has read or knows of this particular book... here goes with the
snippets..
Fritz van Noone and his team of engineers land on a planet with variable
gravity, where 2+2=4.3896. Travel accomplished with sleds, just wait till
the direction you want to go in becomes down. The bridge fabricated in earth
orbit fails to fit together....
Another story has a lone terran saving strange blue aliens in a boat from a
massive flood, they were called Quogs as I remember...
Yet another has a stranded terran tries to use an alien spacecraft as
sanctuary, but the aliens needs are so far from ours that the thing nearly
kills him. Strong acids to soften the hide of the creature, oil baths to
cope with high G. The alien was black and triangular....
Can anyone help?
Pharm..

"...The people can always be brought to the bidding of the
leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being
attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and
exposing the country to greater danger "
-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little
temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
- Benjamin Franklin, 1759
