For all it's faults OE had a filter option so that it could ignore
messages based on number of the groups it is cross-posted to. I wish I
could find something similar in Thunderbird.

I tend to avoid those automatic blockers, mainly because sometimes these
threads can be turned around into an interesting discussion, and the other
groups can be removed from the cross-post list. However, I feel that we
might possibly all be better off if the cross-post facility was either
removed, or restricted to, say, just three groups at a time. What I don't
like, is always having to remember to check which groups it's going to,
before I send each post.

Tim.

You have posted to a special newsgroup set up by
the the NuLabour Government to plug the gaps created by
the abysmal failure of the Psychiatric Care in the Community Policy.
which was implemented by the last Tory Government. This
policy was not only continued but also expanded by this
NuLabour Government.

I'm not interested in silly politics, and I don't care who set the group up.
I live in Guildford, which IS in Surrey, and feel that this could be a
useful group for many people wanting to discuss issues relating to this
geographical area. The group exists, so let's make good, *CONSTRUCTIVE* use
of it. Attempts to wantonly wreck something potentially useful because of
personal political idiologies, is, IMO immature, bloody-minded and stupid.
I also note that the newsgroup header contained other groups and did not
*even include* uk.local.surrey thus meaning that if I had failed to be
sufficiently vigilant, I would have posted this reply only to *wrong*
groups, and not even the right one. Thanks a bunch...

Groups were:-
uk.music.folk,england.religion.christian,uk.local.warwickshire,uk.local.glasgow

The uk.local hierarchy was devised to provide an outlet for
individuals who would otherwise be spending their days sitting
at home wearing an aluminium foil hat waiting for a full moon
to rise.

Rubbish. For one thing, it could be used to drum up local support and
campaigning groups to get things sorted that are wrong in the area.

It was hoped that this would reduce the incidence
of nutters out there howling at the moon and frightening the
*** out of their neighbours. Another of HMGs aims and
objectives was to provide a distraction to take their minds
of the problem of who they were next going to knife to death.

Again, (1) I don't believe you, and (2) I don't care who set up the group
and why.

Unfortunately, this group has been taken over by the
articulate lower middle classes who have succeeding in
driving HMGs target audience away.

No one told me I was inelligible to post on here because I might be
considered to be "Lower middle class".

Independent research has
shown that it was the amount and quality of the inane drivel,
called small talk which the middle classes are adept at, which
had the effect of doing their heads in. They left to protect what
was left of their sanity.

I doubt whether your imagined 'Target Audience' were ever here in the first
place. I also don't consider some of the deep and in-depth discussions I
have had on newsgroups to be "Small talk", although admittedly, some of the
items ARE frivolous, where's the harm in that? People like me are using the
groups to learn, perhaps to inform, and to entertain, a bit like the BBC
really. People mucking about with stupid cross-posts and such, on the other
hand, are doing *nothing* of benefit to *anyone* at all, simlpy because of a
silly and imagined political agenda.

This has happened to the whole of uk.local.
hierarchy. This newsgroup in particular is a very good example
of another HMG failure. It does however, provide a forum in which
one can talk about jobbies for ever and a day. (Contributed by Krustov)

One can talk about anything, and my advice to you is if you don't like it,
just ignore the fact it even exists, and go and do something *useful*. You
like politics? Then stand for election or something.

Tim.

I trust this post will help guide you in your future dealings with this
newsgroup.

Thank you.
