They're worth more if they're pre 1947 if I remember correctly as the silver
content is much higher. After that date, or one close to it they had a much
larger alloy content or no silver at all. Bird's Custard, I remember but I
was more familiar with Monk's Custard if you can remember the little rotund
friar holding a glass of custard on the front of the packet. Hee, hee; and
one of the few times I heard my father say a word out of place was the
Christmas he bit on a silver three penny piece.
Whale Island... Excellent, har; I remember that place as for some reason a
wheel got away and two of us had to dive for it in freezing oily water; that
was during another job we'd been doing in the docks at the time. I remember
it better for the piece of greenheart I nicked with the thought of turning
one piece into a bowl and making a carved spindle with the other piece. That
was a disaster as it had seasoned too well.
