Unfortunatly many posters here are not old enough to remember the
labour party pre thatcher and the state they allowed the country to get
into
and the fact that we had to go cap in hand to the imf to stave off
state bankruptcy , i can still remember the inflation at 25% , wage
caps rubbish mountains and graves not dug 3 day weeks etc .
It took the conservative party 18 years to turn the country around and
get the country financially stable
When they came to power in 97 they inherited an economy that was the
envy of europe .
Yes I can remember when the country was effectively run and almost brought to its knees by the likes of "red robbo" and David Basnett. They were able to walk all over a useless and febble labour government.
