Well, I really wish I could get Linux to work properly - I recognise here
that I lack the knowhow aot the os lacking the wherewithall.

I've always had cheap machines with non-standard oem bits in and many
installations wouldn't even get going. Lately I did manage to install
MDK10.0 - after many many re-starts - but could I heck get my belkin usb
wireless dongle working. If you post a question on the Linux newsgroups you
get partial help and answers like - "you should buy hardware that supports
Linux".

My main motivation for getting Linux was to get away from the MS
stranglehold and not because I'm a techie who loves to tweak with open
source stuff. Ultimately, I don't think Linux was ever intended for people
who just want an os to work with the hardware they have straight out of the
box.
