<snip>

My first brush with "spreading the wealth" occurred when I was in Ashford General for a couple of weeks at the age of 10. During a visit I received some sweets which were promptly confiscated and placed into the "spread the wealth" box for distribution to the entire ward.

I didn't like it then and I certainly don't like it now.

Lol, that sweet episode made quite an impression on you for I seem to remember reading that story before. There is a certain irony to it as "spreading the wealth" around is what paid for your stay in hospital.

At the age of around 7 or 8 I turned in an arithmetic test at Lydd primary. It was returned to me with the words "Rubbish" written in red pen by Mr. Fenner.

Both of those incidents scarred me for life. To this day - I hate redistribution of wealth (at least my wealth) and red pens.

I was scarred for life by Mr. Lunn smacking my legs for talking during Arithmetic and, later, Mrs. Norris ridiculing me in front of the whole class for failing to understand elementary Algebra. To this day I hate creepy old people wearing black gowns.....

Blimey, it's counselling time for the old-timers' hang-ups!
I remember being told by Mr Dudley that if all I did in mensuration class was act the fool I'd end up a fool and never get a job as a draughtsman in an aircraft factory and earn £15 a week. He was right, aren't they always?

Well not always. There was a time when the whole school depended on me at a competitive inter school cricket match. I was last man in, the score was even. Everybody was shouting advice, all you have to do is not get out for one ball and leave it to the shit-hot batsman down the other end to score the winning run. Down came the ball, I took a huge swing at it, looked behind and two stumps were flying. I thought it was hilarious. The "team" and sports master did not. Next gym session the sports master lectured me in front of the whole class and said "with your attitude tooyoungtocare you will be a failure all your life". I smirked inwardly and thought we'll see, this team bollocks is bollocks, we are all on our own in life. Now I'm not so sure. :-)
